Property Tax Allotment Surcharge (PTA)

Written by Network Operations
Updated over 2 weeks ago

The Property Tax Allotment Surcharge (“PTA Surcharge”) is a monthly surcharge that may appear on some Race bills. It is used to recover a portion of property tax-related costs imposed on Race for telecommunications network facilities that Race builds, owns, and maintains to provide service.

Why am I being charged this?

Some states impose property taxes on telecommunications infrastructure. Like many providers, Race may recover part of those costs through a monthly surcharge billed to customers receiving service in affected areas.

Is this a government tax on me?

No. The PTA Surcharge is not a tax imposed directly on the customer by a government agency. It is a Race-imposed surcharge used to recover certain property tax-related costs that Race incurs in providing service.

Does every customer pay it?

No. The PTA Surcharge does not apply in every jurisdiction or service area. Whether it appears on your bill depends on factors such as the location where service is provided and the tax treatment of Race’s facilities in that area.

Why is it separate from my monthly service price?

Race lists certain taxes, fees, and surcharges separately on customer bills so customers can better understand the components of their monthly charges.

Can the amount change?

Yes. The amount of the PTA Surcharge may change from time to time based on changes in property tax-related costs, applicable law, or Race’s cost-recovery practices.

Where can I find this in my agreement?

The Subscriber Agreement explains that Race bills monthly charges, applicable taxes, and surcharges, and may include a separate disclosure regarding the PTA Surcharge. The Subscriber Agreement is available here: Subscriber Agreement.
