Porting Your Phone Number to Race

Bringing your current number to Race is simple. Here's everything you need to know about how porting works, how long it takes, and what to have ready.

Can I keep my phone number when I switch to Race?

Yes. Moving your existing number to Race is called porting, and it lets you keep the number you already have. Here's how it works.

How do I start the port?

You have two options. You can request it while placing your order online, or you can call Customer Support anytime after your phone service is active. Either works.

How long does porting take?

We typically advise 7 to 10 business days. Porting depends on your old provider releasing the number, so the exact timing is partly in their hands and we can't guarantee a set date.

Can I port my number later, after I've ordered?

Yes. There's no deadline. The only requirement is that the number is still active with your current provider when you request the port. Just reach out to Customer Support once your Race phone service is active.

Will I need my account number or a porting PIN from my old provider?

Sometimes. To start the port, we really only need the phone number you want to bring over. A porting PIN is handled case by case, since it depends on how your old account is set up. Some carriers create one only when you ask; others may already have one in place.

If the port can't go through because a PIN or account number is needed, Customer Support will reach out to walk you through it.

How do I find my porting PIN?

The usual route is to contact your current provider and request it. The exact steps vary by carrier, so it's worth asking them directly.

What if I can't find my PIN or account number?

We'll start the port with just your phone number. If it doesn't go through because of a missing PIN, account number, or a name that doesn't match, we'll contact you. We'll try a few times to get it right. If a required PIN still can't be provided, the port may be canceled, and our team will let you know.

What should I do while my port is in progress?

Keep your current phone service active until the port is fully complete. Canceling early, or leaving a pending change on the account, can stop the port from going through. Once everything is done, you're free to close your old service.

Who do I contact if something goes wrong?

We've got you. If there's a delay or an issue, Race will reach out to you directly and explain the next steps. In many cases, that means confirming a few details with your old provider, and we'll tell you exactly what's needed.
